February 2020

1. EAT REGULAR MEALS

There’s a bigger meal or buffet coming up so to “save space”, we skip meals so we can indulge more, feel less guilty and make our money’s worth. Don’t do it. It is going to make you so hungry, leading you to overeat. You will also find it harder to make healthier food choices if you are very hungry.

2. Be MINDFUL

Chew your food slowly and take the time to enjoy your food as well as the company you are with. This gives your body enough time to send the message to your brain that you are satiated and prevent you from overeating.

3. CHOOSE YOUR INDULGENCES WISELY

It is perfectly okay to indulge! You do not have to eat everything at a party. Be selective and save your calories for your favourite food of the season. It is not the quantity you eat, but the quality of the food and the company you eat with.

4. GO FOR MORE HIGH-FIBRE FOODS

Vegetables and wholegrains are good for your health and will add bulk to your diet. This can give the feeling of fullness for a longer period of time and prevent overeating.

5. OPT FOR WATER

Limit your alcohol and sweetened beverage intake. Wherever possible, choose water over sweet drinks, which are a source of empty calories. Alcoholic drinks, are also a concentrated source of calories.
